Here are a few of our favorite day trips: 1. SolDuc Falls/Salmon Cascades 2. Lake Crescent/Marymere Falls 3. Salt Creek/Mouth of the Elwha River 4. Hurricane Ridge 5. Rialto Beach
Our absolute favorite! Beautiful 8/10 mile walk through old growth forest with wonderful waterfall to finish off. Perfect on a rainy day! The rain doesn’t affect the views! Looking for more? There are a lot more trails that lead off from the falls! Hint: pack a picnic and eat at one of the picnic tables along the road in, or in the campground.

On your way to Sol Duc Falls, pretty falls. Must stop in the fall after a rain, you’ll most likely get to see the salmon running! Hint: just a bit past the cascades is the campground. Pull in here for the nicest bathroom stop!

Always check the webcam through the National Parks. The weather is often different than down here. Also best time to go is early or late, especially during peak season, the parking lot often fill up and you’ll have to wait. Hint: This is a perfect way to decompress after your travel day. Unload your car, grab the cooler (in the room) and pack a quick picnic dinner. Head to the ridge and watch the sunset from one of the quiet picnic tables with a fabulous view. They’re kind of hidden, just a little bit past the visitor center on the left behind the first (and best) bathrooms you’ll see. Looking for more? Hurricane Hill is a great hike through the alpine meadows. Go early! Pack your picnic lunch and find those picnic tables I mentioned earlier.

Stunningly beautiful lake, with crystal clear water, kayaking, paddle boarding is wonderful here, (there are lake towels in the bottom dresser drawer) You might also just enjoy relaxing and having a picnic. Looking for more? The Spruce Railroad Trail goes around the back side of the lake 4-5 miles one way, but a good turn around point if that’s too far, is Devil’s Punch Bowl. Hint: Stop at Granny’s for a soft serve cone on the way home…oh, and get the small!

If you’ve got a whole day, pack a picnic and head to the coast. It’s about an hour and half drive to get there, but it’s a lovely drive and the ocean never disappoints.

About 25 minutes west, this is a beautiful little beach with an island that you can walk to in low tide. Tide pooling is fun on Tongue Point. Combine this with a trip to the mouth of the Elwha River, where you’ll likely see bald eagles hunting the area where the river travels from Hurricane Ridge to drop into the strait.
