From the Airport
When you arrive at the airport, after you get through customs, you’ll pass a hallway of people hounding you for overpriced taxis. We recommend walking right passed them. They have a window inside or outside just before you exit the airport (near Corona’s patio bar) on the right side.

Hospital / Covid Test
For those traveling back to the US in light of the travel restriction requiring COVID tests to re-enter, this hospital does “antigen” (cheaper and faster than PCR) tests for 650 pesos (about $33USD) and offers results within 24 hours. I’m sure they have more representatives who speak English, but Sophia is who I’ve dealt with and she’s great! She even had the forethought to schedule me later in the day in case my flight gets delayed.

El Solar is a beachfront bar, but it also shares a kitchen with Barracuda, so it has great seafood and piña coladas but also a great steak and fries.

Just 5 blocks from Casa Ecuador, this is my go-to breakfast joint, but is also great for lunch. Located outside on the fourth floor, the air is much cooler, has a great 360 view, and excellent chilaquiles that come with just about every breakfast. It’s a fun, festive local favorite!

My favorite taco cart. It doesn’t get more authentic. Tender meats like suadero go just as well in their quesadillas. And they have more adventurous meats like lengua or ojo. Tell Edna who’s usually operating the register Jupiter sent you!

This place has been around for decades for good reason. I get embarrassed at how fast I chow down on their al pastor tacos. They cut a bit of pineapple onto it to satisfy any sweet and savory hankering.

Pollo Feliz is a chain, but I can’t help but love it. Sometimes you need a quick, inexpensive meal. It’s a rotisserie chicken restaurant. This location makes fresh tortillas.

They offer all sorts of fun activities. I’ve admittedly only done the ATV ride and zip lining, but they also offer things like swimming with dolphins!

While I don’t think staying at a resort your whole trip is a great way to actually experience the city, I do enjoy getting a day pass from time to time that includes food and beverage along with access to the their pool and gym. This place is kid-friendly and only 10 blocks from Casa Ecuador.
