Oruati Reserve (25 min) has WWII gun emplacements, great views, and a Maorī pā site.
The south coast is great for walking. From Seatoun you can follow the coast around south and come back via through the airport or head north and go around the entire Miramar peninsula - allow 3 hours for these walks.
