This beautiful seaside town is worth the drive down to the Mediterranean (if an excuse was needed). Home once to the master of fauvist art Henri Matisse, there are also numerous good restaurants that nestle against the sea front. If you have more time enjoy a coastal drive down into Spain.

There are a range of quality restaurants scattered around the charming market square in Limoux, as well as live music and street markets depending on the season and day. We recommend "Le Stecy" situated on the main square and "L'Odalisque" located down a secluded back street. Booking recommended.

The castle of Montsegur is where the Cathars made a heroic last stand against the French inquisition who branded the Cathars as heretics. This examples of a Cathar castle stands perilously high on a mountain peak and is well worth a visit for the stunning views over the Pyrenees.

Large shopping center that stocks everything you need. We find it not quite the standard of E-Leclerc but the quality is still good.

If you want some tax free treats then why not make the beautiful drive up into Andorra through the Pyrenees to this tiny principality. There is also breathtaking scenery and the possiblility to ski in season. Be wary of tax free allowances when coming back!
