Learn a little bit of the lingo
Newfoundland is known for its interesting take on many words and phrases. Try using some of the more common phrases during your interactions.
"Where you longs to?" means "Where are you from?"
"Whatta yat?" is simply asking what you are doing. In Newfoundland, the only right answer is "This is it".
"B'y" is frequently used in Newfoundland, and its exact meaning depends on the context that it is being used. Basically, it's referring to any general person, regardless of gender.
"Long may your big jib draw" may be heard as you are leaving Newfoundland, wishing you a safe journey.

Dress in layers and bring a light jacket during the summer to be sure that you experience the most of Newfoundland, even when the weather may not be cooperating.

On rainy days, try our a family-friendly Knot Tying workshop, hosted by Nature's Threads NL. Conducted in a traditional style fishing stage on Twillingate harbour, take home a souvenir keychain after learning a few nautical knots.
