Some of the places you must visit when you come to Nis
"Cele Kula" or Skull Tower, a unique monument in the whole world you must visit.
On May 31, 1809, during the 1st Serbian uprising against the Ottoman Empire very important battle was held just outside of Nis at Cegar hill. Commander Stevan Sinđelić realized that his forces were outnumbered and that he was losing the battle and famously blew up the gunpowder magazine when the Ottomans overtook his trench, killing everyone in it including his troops and himself. The Ottomans comprehended what message can that heroic act have to other Serbs, who can find motivation and encouragement to keep on fighting. So, in order to frighten the Serbian population, they have collected the skulls of dead Serb rebels and embedded into the walls of the tower. Originally it had 952 skulls with Stevan Sindjelic skull on the top.

The Crveni Krst (Red Cross) concentration camp located in Crveni Krst, Niš, was operated by the German Gestapo and used to hold captured Serbs, Jews and Romanis during the Second World War. Established in mid-1941, it was used to detain as many as 35.000 people during the war and was liberated in 1944. More than 10.000 people are thought to have been killed at the camp. After the war, a memorial to the victims of the camp was erected on Mount Bubanj, where many inmates were shot.

It is a great place to escape the urban city and enjoy nature or have a picnic.
Tinkers Alley also known as Coppersmith alley is an old urban downtown that was built in the first half of the 18th century. It was a street full of tinkers and other crafts, together with craftsmen houses deriving from the Turkish period.
Unfortunately, only one part from those houses was preserved today.
Now it is one of the locals' favorite places to have a drink or dine-in.

Kazandžijsko SokačeTinkers Alley also known as Coppersmith alley is an old urban downtown that was built in the first half of the 18th century. It was a street full of tinkers and other crafts, together with craftsmen houses deriving from the Turkish period.
Unfortunately, only one part from those houses was preserved today.
Now it is one of the locals' favorite places to have a drink or dine-in.
Chair Park is located in the heart of the city of Nis, on an area of 16.4 hectares. The whole Chair complex consists of two parts, in one part there is a large green area, while the other part consists of sports and recreational facilities (skating rink, outdoor and indoor pools, football fields, fitness center). Precisely because of the rich vegetation and lush greenery, the Turks gave it the name "Chair", which means garden. The specifics of this park are contributed not only by the impressive size but also by the authentic vegetation of poplars, apple trees and plane trees.
It is great for families and there are a lot of interesting things to do for children. Just outside the park, there are many restaurants and cafes.

The whole Chair complex consists of two parts, in one part there is a large green area, while the other part consists of sports and recreational facilities (skating rink, outdoor and indoor pools, football fields, fitness center). Precisely because of the rich vegetation and lush greenery, the Turks gave it the name "Chair", which means garden. The specifics of this park are contributed not only by the impressive size but also by the authentic vegetation of poplars, apple trees and plane trees.
It is great for families and there are a lot of interesting things to do for children. Just outside the park, there are many restaurants and cafes.
Saint Sava Park is one of the largest parks in Nis. The monumental religious buildings, the temple of Emperor Constantine and Empress Jelena, many cafes, fast food shops and restaurants make this park one of the most urban parts of Nis. During the spring and summer period, many entertainment events are organized in the park. One of those manifestations is the now-famous Mediana Fest, which was attended by many renowned performers of all musical genres. It is a place that can offer interesting things to people of all ages.
