Discover the Adirondacks and Upper Saranac Lake

Sightseeing

Only 20 minutes away from our cabin on Upper Saranac Lake, the little town of Saranac Lake offers great restaurants, art galleries, coffee shops, grocery stores, a carousel for children, tennis courts and playing fields, a river walk, and much more. Take a historic walking tour of the Trudeau TB Sanitarium, visit the historic Hotel Saranac, or just stroll mainstreet and take in all the sights. Several local hiking trails nearby: McKenzie Pond, Baker Mountain, Moose Pond, and three taller, more challenging peaks: McKenzie, Haystack and Scarface.

A bit more laid back and sleepy than Saranac Lake or Lake Placid, Tupper Lake has a fascinating history as an old mill town. Downtown has several little shops and restaurants, and on the north end of town an excellent brewery, Raquette River Brewery. Don't miss the donut shop in the laundry mat at the south end of town, and 3 great easy hikes to great views: Comey Mtn, Goodman Mtn, and Arab Mtn (with a great firetower. Do all three in one day and get your Tupper Triple Badge!

Food scene

Home of the 1932 and 1980 Olympics, Lake Placid is a bustling little town all year around. Stroll main street to discover many different restaurants, retail shops, and nice views of Mirror Lake. But beware the crowds! Visit three great local micro-breweries: Adirondack Brewing Company, on main street; the Lake Placid Brewery, overlooking Mirror Lake; and just south of town, the award winning Big Slide Brewery.

Best museums in the Adirondacks.

Great museum with terrific exhibits that explain the unique history of the Adirondacks. A must visit during your stay, for both kids and adults. Nice cafe for lunch, or stop at the historic hotel in nearby Long Lake.

The Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks. A must visit esp. for younger people. Outstanding indoor exhibits, plus two outdoor activities: the Wild Walk, and the I-forest. Located just east of Tupper Lake, 20 minutes from our cabin.
