The Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge is a nature-lover's dream. There are hiking and biking trails, bird-watching stations, and an auto tour. At the back of the refuge, the Starr Ranch day-use area has a boat launch, a beautiful new screened pavilion area, and a hiking trail on the backside - all facing Old Folk's Playground TPWD paddling trail. The refuge is open from dawn until dusk and has miles of unpopulated area to explore!

Jefferson
Jefferson is just one of those places that you do not want to miss! Whether you're into history (Jefferson definitely has that) or just enjoy charming little towns, this riverfront town has so much to offer. There are great restaurants, antique and unique shops, a fabulous museum, and antebellum homes. It's a wonderful place to step back in time.
It is mandatory. If you go to Jefferson, you must visit the General Store. I'm not listing it under shopping because the experience is not just that. You will see why when you go there, and you will thank me for this advice.

For a town its size, Jefferson has a lot of really good restaurants. You can't make a mistake trying any of them, but if you enjoy vibrant, fresh dishes and great desserts, you should try Austin Streets Bistro for lunch or dinner. The atmosphere is wonderful and the food is delicious. Check out their menu online, and tell Gena we sent you!

Folks are surprised and thrilled when they learn that Enoch's Stomp is here, so we wanted to give you a heads-up.
Auntie Skinner's is a mainstay in Jefferson and a fun place to visit. We recommend the Dive Burger if you like spicy things.

OMG. I don't care where you're from, you'll find something you love from Joseph's Riverport Barbecue. These guys have been doing this for so long, and there are so many choices on the menu that you can't go wrong.

This is a very unique place that also actually has good food! We love the burgers, but there are many items on the menu to choose from.

Cool Places Where You Can Do Many Things
Bass Pro Shops has a store just right across the state line in Louisiana, and if you've never been there, it is really fun. The Boardwalk has many places to eat and Bass Pro is a destination in itself. You can easily spend an afternoon just looking around and shopping, and the boats are close by. They also have a lot of family-oriented events.

You'll see that there are so many cool shops within a few blocks, but this one will blow your socks off with the eclectic variety of offerings. There's a courtyard and a mining sluice for the kids, and always something going on here.

Lake O' the Pines is a great place to fish, swim, and play, and you are right there. Lakeside Park is within a mile of The Ranch House, and that is just one of the many parks around the lake. There are all kinds of recreational opportunities at Lake O' the Pines. Let us know if you have any questions!
Bear Creek Smokehouse is another great place to visit that is within twenty minutes of The Ranch House! If you choose to shop and take some of the great food items they have back with you, there is plenty of room in the freezers and fridge in the garage to store it until you head out. Just saying....

The Ranch House is in an excellent position in the Ark-La-Tex. The casino boats are anchored there, and Shreveport/Bossier boasts a host of other things to do! The biggest problem you might have is just deciding which to choose.

The Ranch House is in an excellent position in the Ark-La-Tex. Lake O' the Pines is literally right out the door, Jefferson is eight miles away, Caddo Lake is within a thirty-minute drive, and within another thirty minutes, you can be across the Louisiana State line. The casino boats are anchored there, and Shreveport/Bossier boasts a host of other things to do! The biggest problem you might have is just deciding which to choose.

The Willow Tree in Jefferson is an upscale shop that has a little bit of everything, and every bit of it is amazing. The selections are unique and tasteful, and there is something for everyone. There are also super seasonal sales, so you really should plan to stop by and check it out when you're in town.
