Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre - With its vast curtain of glass and 40,000-square-metre aluminium roof sculpted to echo a seabird soaring in flight, the striking Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre is a major landmark on the Hong Kong Island skyline. Known worldwide as HKCEC, this harbourfront expansion used top-down construction techniques to meet a challenge of limited land supply; its highly innovative methods winning many industry accolades. Internationally, the HKCEC is known as a world-class convention and exhibition centre and was voted Best Convention and Exhibition Centre in Asia for the 13 times by industry awards in 2016.

The old Wan Chai Post Office, which was listed as a Declared Monument in 1990, now serves as the Environmental Protection Department Resource Centre. The L-shaped structure is the oldest surviving post office building in Hong Kong. It was erected between 1912 and 1913, and opened in 1915. It is a simple pitched-roof structure with attractive gable ends and mouldings. The Chinese couplet on the entrance facing Queen's Road East says: "If we foul our world that sustains us, what then shall we eat? Scorn hygiene that protects life, where then shall we live?" The building services include a reference library and a touch-screen environmental information system.

Hung Shing Temple at Wan Chai - This temple started out as an altar built on a rock that stood on what used to be the shoreline, since Hung Shing is the deity who provides protection at sea, worshipped by fishermen, farmers and sea traders. Over the years, land reclamation has ‘pushed’ the temple farther inland. Estimated to be built between 1847 and 1852, it underwent its first renovation in 2015. Despite the dramatic changes to the city around it, the temple is still used by worshippers and provides visitors with an interesting insight into ancient Chinese folk religion.

Officially named Yuk Hui Kung (Jade Void Palace), this temple was built by Wan Chai residents in 1863. The Pak Tai statue inside the main hall is three metres tall and about 400 years old, much older than the temple itself. On either side there are halls for other deities, including the Three Pristine Ones, Lung Mo (Dragon Mother), and the God of Wealth. Don’t miss the murals inside the halls, which portray scenes of life in olden times — including the staging of a Cantonese opera.

【Hong Kong Tramways】 The Hong Kong Tramways is one of the city’s earliest forms of public transport. For over 100 years, the tramway has traversed between Shau Kei Wan and Kennedy Town through Wan Chai and other districts, serving as a nostalgic tour of otherwise fast-paced Hong Kong. It is worth experiencing the magical transition from old to new on one of the environmentally friendly double-decker trams.
