Cali's oldest church sits atop a hill from where you get a excellent view of the city. Interesting architecture on the outside. We were not allowed to go inside - we were there at the wrong time. Check timings before you visit.

Known for its Gothic style, La Ermita Church is the quintessential postcard image of Cali. This temple was built between 1930 and 1948, and the 18th century marble altar was brought over from Italy. The musical clock and windows are from Amsterdam, while the iron gates were manufactured in Cali in 1973. La Ermita preserves images more than three centuries old, such as those of the Virgen de los Dolores, San Roque, San Jose, and Christ de la Caña.

Parks & Nature

A weekend ritual for many Caleños is to hike up El Cerro de las Tres Cruces (Three Cross Hill), west of the Santa Monica neighborhood. The climb will get your blood pumping, and at the top and along the way, you’ll have some good views of Cali, especially early in the day. The ascent will take about an hour. At the top, if you still feel energetic, you can join Cali’s fit and fabulous as they work out in the makeshift outdoor gym next to the crosses. It’s quite a scene up there. Bring a little cash with you to enjoy a freshly squeezed orange juice. [Courtesy Andrew Dier]
