Neighborhood Gems

Jamaica Plain is home to many beautiful green spaces within the City Of Boston. Hopefully, you have time to enjoy at least one during your stay with us. My favorite is The Forest Hil Cemetery. Before public parks were invented people congregated with their loved ones both dead and alive to enjoy the scenery and the beautiful pond and a picnic.
Greenery abounds in Jamaica Plain thanks to Frederick Law Olmsted, the father of American landscape architecture. Olmsted designed Boston’s Emerald Necklace, and several of its jewels (or parks) are situated in JP. There’s the Arnold Arboretum—the oldest public arboretum in North America—and Franklin Park, Jamaica Pond, and Olmsted Park. Our Emerald Necklace is topped by the most beautiful place that I enjoy going to for many reasons and that is the Forest Hills Cemetery. The neighborhood’s allure of rural beauty within city limits has long been a draw for Bostonians. Beginning in the 1700s, the city’s well-to-do built country estates near Jamaica Pond. In addition to parks and natural vistas, JP offers abundant biking and walking paths. Those who relish the outdoors but crave city living strike a balance in Jamaica Plain, as it’s only a 15-minute drive to Back Bay.

The farmers market is a great place to go on a Saturday morning or early afternoon for fresh coffee baked goods, delicious vegetables, music and more. There are many artists who are selling their beautiful work whether it’s pottery or paintings this farmers market will not let you down. It’s definitely farm to table right here in the city.

The South End and SOWA (south of Washington Street) is full of beautiful brownstones and cobblestone sidewalks that you can meander around all day, finding the old history and the new history. It’s definitely worth a trip, especially the open market. This neighborhood has just about everything you need for a lovely afternoon. Bakeries, coffee, shops, dinner, theater, jazz clubs, you name it and the South End has it. Not to be confused with South Boston. Completely different neighborhood. It’s the south end of Boston, not South Boston both are beautiful but very different places.

Food scene

One of the Best neighborhood restaurants in the city. Comfortable dining with friends or alone it has a warm comfortable feeling and is within walking distance of the Airbnb. It is recommended you make a reservation as it is a popular restaurant, not just in the neighborhood- but in the city as well. However, I have walked in many nights and the owners are very accommodating. Not only is the food amazing the staff is extremely experienced and willing to accommodate all types of dietary needs. I believe they will ask you upfront if you need any special modifications they are more than willing to accommodate you. If you feel like eating in they also have a take-out menu. A definite must go to if you want great food, comfortable atmosphere and a true Jamaica Plain vibe.

The farmers market in Roslindale Square.

It’s more than a farmers market. It’s definitely a lot of fun not only is the market full of delicious local fruits and vegetables, baked goods and treats. They also have music and fun for the kids! It’s my favorite thing to do on a Saturday in the summer!

Useful advice who what where?

1.Don’t ask : how come you don’t have an accent? 2.Where can we get great seafood, like right off the boat? You won’t find a baa’gin. You can eat on a boat and have seafood for $$$$ 3.Quincy market is not a realistic place. it’s for tourists. It’s worth a visit, but no one that lives here goes there unless they are under 25 or they work their. . 4.Yelp is not the greatest advise by far. If you’re looking for an evening out ask someone who looks similar to you and in age.
