Can you eat the entire banana split? If so, you'll be one of the few! Established in Jefferson City in 1934 this ice cream parlor is local favorite! A few dollars gets you a LOT of some of the best ice cream in the area. It gets quite busy in summer time, but don't worry, the line goes fast and the staff is used to handling the volume.

Be sure to book a tour to learn the most about the artwork in the Capitol and gain access to the "Whispering Room" (a whisper can be hear all the way across the rotunda!). Get out in nature!
The Katy Trail runs just north of Jefferson City, great for walking and biking. There are bike rentals available (google katy trail bike rental). This is one of the closest access points.

Great views of the river and a chance to explore up and down the river bluffs. The Osage Bluff Scenic Trail is 1.9 miles. Note many people frequent here, so it is a nice way to explore the woods privately! Primitive camping is allowed in designated areas. Note: the trail is not long, but has some steep parts. Be sure to take sunscreen and water in the summer.

The Center itself has an several outdoor shorter trails and the building has displays many with live reptiles, amphibians, and fish!
Lewis and Clark traversed this part of Missouri, and we are very proud of it (you will see signs on many of the roads where it has been documented that Lewis and Clark traveled). This is the hill where Clark looked out and saw the confluence of the Osage and the Missouri. It is about 0.5 mile out to the lookout. Be sure to look for Bonnots Mill (you will see the white church steeple!)
