The lake at Stockgrove is noted for its colourful Mandarin ducks whilst one fo the lakes in Rushmere is home to a fantastic heronry; on the meadows green woodpeckers may be seen feeding on ants among the wildflowers and grasses.

Ascott Estate lies on the borders of the counties of Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire and is predominately owned by the de Rothschild family with the exception of Ascott Park which was donated to the National Trust in 1949.
The 4,400 acre Ascott Estate is comprised of over 3,500 acres of arable land, 300 acres of grassland, 300 acres of woodland and 40 residential letting properties.
Ascott Park, owned by the National Trust, lies in the centre of the privately owned Ascott Estate and includes a grade II* listed property set in 261 acres of formal and informal gardens and parkland, a cricket ground and 14 residential properties.
