A charismatic delight in the middle of downtown´s grit, this small, jazzy-baho spot dishes out delicious modern Argentine food. Try the lomo DADA, a fat steak on top of potatoes smothered in mustard sauce or the filo-covered Morbier bites. Seats are limited, but you can always cozy up with the regulars at the bar and sip a cocktail while you wait

This is a San Telmo restaurant at its best: tightly packed tables, patrons knocking elbows, suited waiters, a sweaty asador and great meat. It started with one floor but now has three, including a rooftop terrace. Order your meat jugoso (rare) and the waiter might just cut it with a spoon. One of Buenos Aires' most beautiful buildings is this 22-story office block, whose unique design was inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy; its height (100m) is a reference to each canto (or song), the number of floors (22) to verses per song, and its divided structure to hell, purgatory and heaven. To see Palacio Barolo you'll need to book a guided tour, during which you'll get to ride in the 1920s elevator and admire the panoramic views from the rooftop lighthouse.

Surrounded by the Casa Rosada, the Cabildo and the city’s main cathedral, Plaza de Mayo is the place where Argentines gather in vehement protest or jubilant celebration. At the center is the Pirámide de Mayo, a white obelisk built to mark the first anniversary of independence from Spain. If you happen to be here on Thursday at 3:30pm, you’ll see the Madres de la Plaza de Mayo gather and circle the pyramid, holding photographs of their missing children. These mothers of the 'Disappeared’ (Argentines abducted by the state during the military dictatorship of 1976 to 1983) continue to march as a reminder of the past and for other social justice causes.

La Boca's most famous street and 'open-air' museum is a magnet for visitors, who come to see its brightly painted houses and snap photographs of the figures of Juan and Eva Perón, Che Guevara and soccer legend Diego Maradona, who wave down from balconies. (Expect to pay a few pesos to take pictures of tango dancers or pose with props.) Sure, it could be called a tourist trap, but don't let that put you off. The houses here represent the neighborhood's typical tenement shacks, covered in corrugated zinc and originally brushed with leftover paint that Genoese port workers got from the ships. Caminito (or 'little path') was named after a 1926 tango song, which tells of a love lost. This song inspired Benito Quinquela Martín, La Boca's most famous artist, to help create Caminito in 1955.

The centerpiece of this gleaming white colonial church, built by Franciscans in 1732, is a Peruvian altar adorned with silver from Argentina’s northwest. Inside, head to the left to visit the small but historic cloisters museum; it’s home to religious vestments, paintings, writings and interesting artifacts, and there are good views of Recoleta cemetery. Descend the graffiti-strewn stairwell and step aboard the carriage of an actual New York subway train to reach BA's hottest bar, a cavernous underground space with DJs and dancing, and a smaller, cozier room styled as a pharmacy. It's a popular place; call ahead to put your name on the guest list.
Upscale restaurant-wine bar with a good selection of wines by the glass as well as fresh fruit cocktails, exotic martinis and Euro- and Asian-inspired dinner selections. It’s very popular, so come early and snag a good seat on a sofa.

Jet definitely has an exclusive vibe that attracts celebrities and fashionistas, so put on your best get-up or you won’t make the dress code. Early on you can hang in the swanky cocktail lounge, nibble on tapas or sushi and enjoy the marina view. As the night progresses, however, the hip young clubbers start making their appearance.

One of BA’s most elegant bars, this sexy spot takes up three floors of a renovated old mansion. The garden out back is a leafy paradise, overlooked by a solid balcony that holds the best seats in the house. Nearby marble steps are also an appealing place to lounge with a frozen mojito or basil daiquiri.

Delys

A sufficiently large selection of wines at a reasonable price together with various charcuterie in a pleasant atmosphere. Great as somewhere to grab a glass and bite for an hour or so

Specializing in organic and natural fare, this place has a good range of fish and vegetarian options, including tasty sandwiches, wraps, salads, and fish and veggie burgers as well as the classic beef version. A nice place to linger with a coffee or smoothie. Also sells deli products to take away.

Sample Argentina's fabulous Italian-style gelato at this upmarket ice-cream parlor. The sambayón (made with egg yolks, milk, cream, sugar and Marsala wine) is particularly good here.
