This is also on the 'Outlander' trail. Famous as the ' ship that never sailed' it has the remarkable feature that it really looks like a ship when approached form the water. You can get stunning views of all three bridges over the forth and there is a beach with a picnic area nearby.

A very popular place to visit. The Kelpies are a relatively new attraction that local people have quickly come to love! You can take a trip to see inside these stunning sculptures which are part of the Helix park in Falkirk with lots of different local activities. I drive past them every day on the way to work and they never look the same as the weather and light conditions affect them and they can look quite 'other worldly' at times!

You can take various trips on the canal, which goes over a stunning aqueduct over the avon gorge. Some trips even take you to the Falkirk wheel. There is a tea room at the Canal Centre, where once a year there is our annual fun day with a cardboard boat race which is always worth a watch!

Right next to the palace, this is an essential part of the Linlithgow skyline. The distinctive timber and aluminium crown was added in 1964, but the building itself goes back to 1424. Before this it was the site of a cathedral dating back to 1242. It is a beautiful church. You can visit until 4pm in the Summer and in the winter it is open in the mornings.

South Queensferry is a charming little town very close to Linlithgow. We like to go there for coffee - there are lots of little shops to choose from. You can take a trip on the 'Maid of the Forth' to get views of the famous Forth bridges and perhaps visit Incholm Island and Abbey.

Scotland's Capital city

Most people who come to stay can't miss taking at least one day trip to Edinburgh. There is so much to do there that this listing does not have room to do it justice, but needless to say there is something for everyone. It is only an hour away on the number 38 bus, which stops very near the house, or alternatively you can take a 20 minute train ride.

Food Scene

If you like a good steak then you might want to visit The Chop'n'Ale House which is the restaurant attached to the Champany Inn. We often go there on birthdays. You can't book. Just turn up, but be prepared to wait a little if it is busy. Note: this is currently closed since lockdown, but I am assured that they are keen to reopen.
