Less than two blocks away. Come for the coffee, stay for the pastries or wide selection of lunch sandwiches. Huge patio shielded from traffic with lush foliage and several tables protected from rain.

Some would say this old school diner absolutely serves up the best breakfast in Vancouver. It's one of the longest continually operated businesses in the city.

Do not be deterred by that line out the door on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Those people know why it's worth waiting to get a seat inside. Dulin's breakfast can go toe to toe on deliciousness and quality with anything Portland can offer.

It's a perfectly fine, even exquisite, breakfast. But I like to line up at the roll-up window next door, peer longingly at the bakery shelves and order at least two of their superb pastries.

Best donuts in Vancouver. Not too sweet, not greasy, interesting flavors – and (as of August 2019) a dozen are $9 after 8 PM.

Amazing Mexican food. The salsa is a must-have. I once wrote a glowing review about the place for The Oregonian. While that was circa 2010, a 2019 visit proved the quality and menu creativity is still there.

If you are able to squeeze in one sight-seeing stop on your Vancouver visit, this should be it. You'll want to stroll to the prow and take in the sweeping views of the Columbia River. Just upriver, a short stroll away, you're bound to notice a water feature (or sculpture) that depicts the topography of the Columbia River Basin. If you visit at night, you're in for a special illuminated treat.
