Waikiki Beaches

This is our favorite local beach, named after the hotel directly behind it (which has a great happy hour at its lobby bar). It's an easy, scenic 15 minute walk or 5-10 minute ride/drive. Walk toward Diamond Head, along Kapiolani Park on your left, and you'll get to Kaimana Beach. It is located between the War Memorial Natatorium and the New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel. It is a beautiful wide stretch of beach that is popular with locals because it away from the tourist crowds of Waikiki. The beach is protected by a wide reef and the near ocean bottom is shallow and sandy, great for swimming and snorkeling. The beach is also an access point for the popular surf spot Old Man's.

This highly popular beach is nicknamed “Kuhio Ponds” because the beach is divided by two concrete walls that stretch 40 years into the ocean. The result is a calm swimming enclosure that is ideal for children and families (or those who prefer calmer water). Lot's of options for surf rentals/lessons and umbrella/lounger rentals. Three popular landmarks are located here: the Prince Kuhio Statue, the Duke Kahanamoku Statue and the Stones of Kapaemahu.
