Lister Road, Halifax, HX3 6XG, West Yorkshire. Shibden Hall often described as Halifax's Historic Home, must surely rank as one of the regions most popular tourist attractions and during the summer months the park surrounding this delightful property is often crowded with scores of visitors. The hall itself was constructed in 1420 by the Otes family, though it is more commonly associated with the Lister dynasty who resided here for almost 300 years. Situated close to the town centre Shibden, with its adjacent Folk Museum, also possesses a boating lake, pitch and putt golf course and a steam-hauled miniature railway which is bound to appeal to the children. Shibden Hall is the focus of a new BBC drama series written by Sally Wainwright, 'Gentleman Jack' exploring the life of Anne Lister (1791 - 1840) and those who lived in the Hall and Estate. The series, entitled 'Gentleman Jack' will be aired on the BBC from the 19th May and also on HBO in 2019.

The Piece Hall in Halifax is without doubt of great architectural importance and stands today as a testament to the towns glorious industrial past. A Grade 1 listed building it opened in January 1779 as a market for the sale of cloth pieces, hence the name. Ultimately, however, a decline in textile making lead to the conversion of the building into a market for the sale of vegetables and fresh fish. Latterly, this magnificent structure has undergone yet another transformation and now possesses a large number of speciality shops situated in galleries on three levels.
