If you only had one store for everyone, this would be it! The entrance opens into a deli. Stairs up lead to clothing, footwear, local books, children's items and such. Stairs down lead to hunting, fishing and camping supplies in addition to a huge selection of beer, some Oscar's Smoke house products and a few other grocery items. Ethanol free gas and propane fills outside on one side of the store. Soft ice cream and SUPs, paddles etc on the other. And really nice people work here.

This is a short, steep hike (about 2 miles round trip). There are many good views along the way. It is easy to get to, just north of Schroon Lake.

People primarily go here to fish and float (although you're officially not allowed to bath because of the dam...) You could put a boat in the water and paddle north up the river to Schroon Lake. This is all quiet water with camps or forest along the river. If you do go here, PLEASE be mindful of water levels and currents.

This is a very short walk (1 mile round trip) along a beautiful stream under the forest canopy to a pretty little pond that is swimmable. Bring snacks and hang around a while. Bushwhack around the pond. Lots to explore here. If you do go in the pond, remember to use all safety precautions because there are no lifeguards or safety measures in place. You are responsible for your own actions. NEVER jump or dive into a body of water without THOROUGHLY investigating the depth of the water and any rocks, logs etc that may be hidden. The best practice is to find a rock outcrop from which it is easy to slip into and out of the water.

A very unique place - a casual restaurant and bike shop in one! These folks have invested heavily in the area, creating walking and mountain bike trails that begin at their restaurant. Also, very close to Brant Lake Beach.

Main Street has that old time ice cream shop feel. But we go there more often for breakfast or lunch than ice cream. The last couple times the golden beet salad was much better than a beet salad has any right to be. Clothes and souvenirs upstairs.

Several signature cocktails are offered along with a rotation of craft beers on tap. The menu is not extensive but focuses on unique takes on seemingly familiar items. I enjoyed their quesadilla with the duck option while a fellow diner thought the Tex-Mex burger was one of the best she ever had. The beef short ribs, a house specialty have received great reviews. 21 South St$1.65 hot dogs! Good, inexpensive fare in a clean comfortable diner setting. Friendly service. Along with the 'dogs they have burgers, Philly cheese steak, chicken and fish fillet sandwiches. Hearty breakfasts too. Check out the full menu on their website.
Toad Hill is a relatively large operation with a spacious visitor center/store. Maple season is late February until early April check the website and call other times of the year to see if they are open to the public.

Because sometimes you need a good, basic hardware store. Loads of stuff. In the very back of the store is an ever changing array of unfinished furniture built by the previous owner. Basic, sturdy and very reasonably priced, we've purchased several of his creations and finished them ourselves. They also sell bread and local maple syrup.

Across the street from Mountain Hardware, these 2 stores complement each other nicely. Stephenson is more building materials, Mountain hardware is - hardware - and camping stuff, grills etc.

A good place to stop and pick up information about the area. During business hours, there is someone eager to answer your questions and help you find the information you need. Even is it's closed, there is a good deal of information posted on the front deck.
