Designed by one of the grand-masters of golf course architecture, James Braid (1870-1950), “The Boat” is set alongside the River Spey in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. The course is not only renowned as a demanding test of sporting skill but also as a magnificent setting for the game. Braid’s design features 18 completely individual holes, cleverly and sensitively shaped fairways lined by birch trees, heather and broom, maximising the natural landscape and producing a beautiful and challenging course.

Over 20 miles of purpose-built trails wind through Laggan Forest, with superb views of the Monadhliath hills on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park. There are routes from an easy-going green trail to a black run that’s probably the most technical bit of single-track in Scotland. In the bike park you can ride big berms and tabletop jumps.

The Cairngorm Reindeer Herd is Britain’s only free-ranging herd of reindeer found in the Cairngorm mountains in Scotland. These tame and friendly animals are a joy to all who come and see them. Reindeer are not just for Christmas! There are currently around 150 reindeer in the herd, mostly ranging on the Cairngorm Mountains with the remainder on the Glenlivet Estate, the locations being some 30 miles apart.

1896 Gallery, born in November 2014 after the conversion of the Boat of Garten village public hall. Dated 1896. We are pleased to say it is still being enjoyed by the local community, as well as our much travelled visitors. The gallery was created to share and celebrate the amazing landscape of Scotland through our Scottish based artists and resident photographer James Gordon, as well as the creative 3D work of artisans and craftmakers. This combination of art and craft is a feast for the eyes, and hopefully it will inspire and arouse the art in the soul.
