Nature things

During high season you can go to this beach and park for free after 4:30 or 5:00. It's a really lovely place to swim and watch the sunset. Off season you can go anytime. If you check for low tide, it's extraordinary how far out the tide goes and you can walk out quite far. It's really very magical. To make the perfect trek, stop at the Brewster Country Store before and gets some treats.

This is right across from the house and it's a sweet place to go for a morning or afternoon walk. Lots of scrub pines and then open fields with wild flowers in July. Lots of birds. Fair warning, it is a popular dog walking spot for locals and dogs are often off leash. I walk there all the time and have never had a bad interaction.

I can not say enough awesome things about Nickerson. So many beautiful pristine kettle ponds. Lovely walks and an extensive bike trail. It's a favorite.

If you want the traditional Cape "spend the whole day at the beach", this one is great. Boogie Boarding, there is a fun sandbar, surfing. Lot's of parking. though in high season you will have to take a shuttle to the beach from the parking area.

The bike path is super close to the house. You can pick it up in a couple of places, but if you want to avoid roads with cars entirely, you can bike through Thompson's Field (a bit sandy) and hit it in 5 minutes. To the left is Chatham and to the right is Dennis or the path to cut across to Brewster. All are great.

If you are feeling hot and want to go for a quick dip, this is the pond for you. About an 8 minute drive from the house. It has a huge parking lot, but is practically empty. You are supposed to have a Harwich permit, but honestly I don't think anyone is checking. This is our go to local pond. Super mellow and sweet.

One of the most special places on Cape Cod. A MUST SEE. A magical singular landscape of sand. It's a little hard to find. On route 6a, just before you get to the turn off for Ptown, you will see a line of cars on the right. Park there. It's free. I'm not sure there is even a clear sign. I would suggest looking it up online to get a better idea of the exact spot. It's worth the effort. Most people leave their shoes at the bottom of the hill, though you might want to check how hot the sand is. You can hike in a little or go all the way to the sea. we usually go over the first two hills and then run down. Bring water and a hat in the summer. There is no shade. It's beautiful all year long. People forage for mushrooms and cranberries there in the fall.

Classic Cape Cod, seafood and burgers. Right in Harwich. Has an amazing view of the Nantucket Sound. Can get crowded in high season, might be a bit of a wait.

Shopping

Brewster in teaming with antiques. We like this shop a lot because it is quirky and chock full and the owner is friendly. But there are many places along 6A to explore, super fun.

Great gift shop that happens to owned by our friend! Really thoughtful selection with a lot of local work. Good place to go on a rainy day. There are a lot of great shops in the Lemon Tree shopping area (where this gift shop is), with plenty of parking and a place to get great sandwiches.

An old fashioned country store. It's exactly as you would imagine a country store to be. Selling all manner of interesting things. Thimbles, cookie cutters, cranberries, oil lamps, FUDGE, a whole wall of candy that will send your kids to sugar heaven. What's not to love?

Sightseeing

The Chatham Fish Pier is awesome. There is a great market to buy fresh seafood, but even better is just standing on the pier and watching the fishing boats come in. Plus SO MANY SEALS. Tons and tons of seals, kids go nuts. The seals are enchanting.
