Our favourite places to eat
We are so lucky where we are - just a few miles from Arbroath so there is a wide choice of places to suit your taste whatever it is. We've listed just a few below, we hope you enjoy them too

Just a few miles away in a picturesque fishing village, the But 'n' serves traditional Scottish food, with an emphasis on seafood. It sources many of its ingredients locally and has a sweet trolley that is hard to resist.

This is a wonderful café on the West Port open from 9am for coffees but they serve lovely light lunches throughout the day and stock a wide variety of flavoured teas. They make the most delicious cakes too and are so popular you are better to book if you are going for lunches.

This is a child friendly restaurant that serves lunches and evening meals to suit all tastes. At night upstairs turns into a night club with live bands playing. They have an outside seating area when the weather is nice.

Castles, Museums and Historial Buildings
Angus with its wealth of history is full of Castles and Arbroath of course has its own Abbey.
Arbroath Abbey is most famous for its involvement in the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Although mostly ruins, a visitor centre has been built with a viewing gallery and impressive display. There is a model of what it is thought the Abbey looked like originally and films are shown. You can relax after your walk of the grounds in their café or visit the shop.

Glamis Castle is the childhood home of the late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Its a magnificent castle surrounded by beautiful gardens and grounds. Their tours are guided only and parties can be booked. Their café is well worth the visit.

We are very lucky where we are located and have our own estate walks. If you want to go a little further, there are so many other options.
Lunan Bay is only a 10 minute car journey from Kinblethmont but is one of the most beautiful beaches in the area. Red Castle overlooks the beach and there is a café and small shop near the car park. Why not take a picnic and spend the day paddling and building sand castles.

Less than an hour from us is the Angus Glens with lots of hillwalking opportunities - of varying degrees of difficulties. Glen Clova, Glen Prosen, Glen Esk, and Glen Doll also offer many walks

There are many walks around the cliffs in Arbroath. You can walk all the way to Auchmithie from here. It takes about 2 hours, so why not stop at the But 'n' Ben for a coffee or lunch before getting a taxi back to your car again.

Pitmuies House is only about 10 minutes drive away and open April to October. The gardens are beautiful to walk around. Dogs are welcome, but need to be kept on leads.

St Cyrus Beach and Nature Reserve is a short drive in the car. Its a beautiful reserve with an abundance of flowers, butterflies and birds which leads onto a natural sandy beach

Golf and Fishing or boat trips
Angus is abundant with some of Scotlands best golf course and we are lucky to have so many on our doorstep. For those who prefer to fish, there is plenty of choice for you too.
Just a short drive away is the e world famous Carnoustie Golf Course which has a choice of 3 courses and they have simulators available too. Booking is essential.

Near Pitlochry, this is the smallest distillery in Scotland and is the last of the farmhouse distilleries. Opening hours are limited and there is no admission to under 12s and no toilet facilities on site.

Arbroath is awash with things for children of all ages to do
Right at the front, the fun park has something for everyone - from the paddling pool to the childrens play park as well as tennis courts, crazy golf and mini racetrack . At peak times, you can go aboard the miniature railway which runs along the main railway line. There is a snackbar and picnic area - so you can easily spend the whole day there.

For those who love trains, this railway is a must. If offers Thomas and Santa specials as well as the regular diesel Saturdays and Steam Sundays. The train runs from Brechin to the House of Dun - just a 4 mile stretch. For adults you can take the Whiskey Whistler or the Sloe Train.

Park RoadFor those who love trains, this railway is a must. If offers Thomas and Santa specials as well as the regular diesel Saturdays and Steam Sundays. The train runs from Brechin to the House of Dun - just a 4 mile stretch. For adults you can take the Whiskey Whistler or the Sloe Train.
The reserve attracts 50,000 birds every year. There is an interactive display and excellent telescopes that allow you to see the birds - and seals - that can be found in the basin. There are regular seasonal activities but opening hours are limited over winter.
