Going strong since 1892, the charming, wood-panelled bar of Bodega de la Ardosa is brimful of charm. To come here and not try the salmorejo (cold tomato soup made with bread, oil, garlic and vinegar), croquetas or tortilla de patatas (potato and onion omelette) would be a crime. On weekend nights there’s scarcely room to move.

Close to Bodegas Ricla, this small place near the Plaza Mayor, has the best fried cod of Madrid. It has three tables and a stand up bar and it’s usually crowded.
Just eat cod and have a drink.

A traditional bar founded in 1929 where you can drink vermouth, “cañas” (small beer glasses), and a lot of different types of wine. There are always people having a drink and also it’s crowded at several times of the day. Better to drink something than to eat.

Traditional tavern (more than hundred years history) close to Plaza Mayor, almost no place to sit, with a wide selection of small tapas like “boquerones en vinagre” (pickled anchovies in garlic and parsley), “cecina” (smoke cured beef from Leon), meatballs, …. This is a great local place to stop in for a couple of small tapas and a drink vermouth, “cañas” and different types of wine.

Highly recommend a visit if you're in the Chueca area while visiting our city. This bar as established in 1917 is where is said the king Alfolso XIII went to have a vermouth. Probably the best vermouth of the city is served in this place.
