Parque Lezama
This is one of the most beautiful parks in the city, with lovely trees, interesting design and the natural cliff on Paseo Colón Avenue. There is a great deal of well known artists’ works and, on Defensa Street we find the National History Museum with its towers, observatory and gallery with objects from the Viceroyship period and Independence epoch.

This market was built in 1897 by Juan Antonio Buschiazzo, the same Italian-born Argentine architect who designed Cementerio de la Recoleta. It occupies the inside of an entire city block, though you wouldn’t be able to tell just by looking at the modest sidewalk entrances. The wrought-iron interior (note the beautiful original ceiling) makes it one of BA’s most atmospheric markets; locals shop here for fresh produce and meat. Peripheral antique stalls offer old treasures. If you like coffee, look for the Coffee Town kiosk.

Equally good care is taken with the drinks menu; an excellent selection of teas and coffees, wines and cocktails are served.

It’s probably not as cheap as it used to be, and yes, a lot of tourists go there, but this huge, bustling place is always a great experience, so who cares? Despite its size, the service from the entirely male wait-staff is outstanding, and frequently very funny (none of them lack for personality). Pinguinos (little jugs) of the house red are great value.

Go for an after-work pint (the Antares Scotch is excellent) and stay for the pub food, which includes one of the best green Thai curries you can get in Buenos Aires.
