This is one of those spots you walk past and may miss. It has been in the area a while and is a great spot to catch a tasty, filling dinner to take home. West African food is tasty, served in generous portions and has a home cooked appeal.

This is NOT an eat in spot. But it is great for food on the go, or to pick up close by if you are looking for something to eat without going to far. They have a great selection of fried or steamed seafood that is pretty fresh and fair in price. Much better alternative to popular American fast food. I recommend some kind of Fish and Fries (chips) or some steamed seafood and vegetables.

It isn't too bad a walk down ever changing and historic Bushwick Avenue to the local gem, Little Skips. Be forewarned though, on the weekends this place can be a bit crowded in the morning or brunch time, but they have great and healthy sandwiches. Despite being a part of a very sweeping change in this neighborhood, Little Skips has been in Bushwick a long time, and I do believe they attempt to be mindful of their place in the community.

Drinks & Nightlife

Cool local bar that you can walk or take a short cab ride to. If you take the metro it is only 1 stop, but you can walk there as well. Many nights this bar turns into a fun place to dance and party.

Sightseeing

This is the prototype for a hipster neighborhood. The epicenter of development, artist driven enterprise, gentrification, nightlife, taste making, commercial interest, shopping for curios, and more. Williamsburg is the model. Being close to the J train puts you a short ride away to our partner neighborhood. Take the Manhattan/UPTOWN bound J Train to any stop after Flushing avenue and you will be amidst the boundaries of Williamsburg. Make sure to take note of the Hasidic Jewish Community, the largest Hasidic community in the world. Their history in New York and Williamsburg specifically is rich and their culture has left an indelible mark on the area, particularly in the beginning borders close to Bushwick. Go further into the neighborhood by getting off at Marcy Avenue, the 1st stop in Brooklyn from Manhattan and you will be within walking distance to nightlife, acclaimed restaurants and food fare, shopping, street art, markets and more.

A short walk from the flat, Nyssa Frank runs this burgeoning arts gallery. There are many in Bushwick and this one often has activities close by through out the week. Look up their Facebook page.

This is one of a few Family Dollar locations but will usually have shorter lines and is closest to the Kosciusko metro station. From here you can get anything from a temporary pre-paid cell phone, toiletries, extra toilet paper and hygiene supplies and more.
