It is situated about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from Darjeeling. The road descends rapidly into the valley. With sharp bends all the way, there are scenic views at many points.

From Tiger Hill, Mount Everest (8848m) is just visible, peeping out through two other peaks standing by its side. Makalu (8481m) looks higher than Mt. Everest, owing to the curve in the horizon.
