One of our favorite spots, the Cloisters offer a portal to another world. Beautiful and peaceful setting... probably best for adults and older children.

Absolutely incredible museum-- easy to drive and park in their parking garage. The garage is not well advertised-- we have found it very accessible and when you enter the museum from the garage, you can skip the line in front!

This one hour round trip is a great way to see the harbor, statue of liberty, Ellis Island, etc. for free. Make your way in via the Metro North and connect to the subway or if you are really adventurous, you can drive during non-peak hours. From there you can spend the rest of the day exploring the city.

Playground and Views
Our grandchildren absolutely love this playground. With beautiful views of the Hudson and lots of shade, it's a great place for grown ups, too.

Neighborhoods
This neighborhood is famous for great restaurants, tree lined streets, beautiful brown stones and Prospect Park. It's a bit of a haul from Nyack, but if you have the time, it is well worth it. Also very close to Carroll Gardens (another great neighborhood) and Downtown Brooklyn. If you want the true Brooklyn experience, we highly recommend going! Take the metro north to grand central, walk to the F, follow the signs for "downtown and Brooklyn" and get off at Carroll Street. From there you can walk either to Carrol Gardens or Park Slope.

Driving Adventures
If you want a local experience (and are not daunted by driving), take a drive into the city VIA the 9A and come back on the FDR at night. From the house you cross the GW bridge go down the 9A and cross over to the FDR to return. We highly recommend the drive on the FDR at night (heading north) between 23rd Street and Harlem River Drive to see the famous city lights. It's gorgeous.

Food scene
Both downtown Nyack and Piermont offer many wonderful local restaurants and shops without needing to leave the area for the more famous touristy in NYC and Brooklyn.
Downtown Piermont is very peaceful, quaint and 'east coast'. There are lots of restaurants, a great open space for kids to run and stunning views of the Hudson.
