OUR FAVORITES of the North Shore:)
Haleiwa is a quaint little surfing town with one business street that contains most anything you will ever need during your visit on the North Shore including Starbucks, Malama Market (grocery), Longs Drugs, Ace Hardware and several unique surf shops, boutiques and art galleries. There are a couple different banks with ATMs and a Post Office as well. We usually count on the Yelp app for interesting food choices. It is about a 40 minute walk to the farthest edge of our little town Haleiwa where you can enjoy the view of the Rainbow Bridge over the Anahulu River that feeds into the ocean right by the Haleiwa Boat Harbor at Waialua Bay (A MUST SEE) A perfect place to paddle board or canoe with the sea turtles swimming right underneath you. This is one of our favorite places and favorite things to do.

Waialua is the Home of the World's Best Sugar! It is a quiet and reserved little community that offers some of the best pizza on the North Shore at Jerry's Pizza. There is a public Library, a local general store, a coffee shop, a local feed store and they have a Farmers Market set up on a regular basis right at the old Sugar Mill. The old sugar mill is turning into a unique Marketplace with a surf shop and soap factory and more. AND, there are free concerts in the grandstand on a regular basis.

Aweoweo Street at Waialua Beach Road, looking North towards the Aweoweo Beach Park from the bike route. The park is only a couple blocks North of the bike path and the Aweoweo Beach is connected to the park. It is my regular “GO TO” on a daily basis. One of my faves because I don’t have to deal with swimming near any coral. I usually see at least 5 sea turtles every time I go!

Kealia Trail is a well-travelled trail and one of the most popular on the North Shore. Not far from our Yurt and directions can be found on the Internet. It is located above Dillingham Field where there are people jumping out of perfectly good airplanes and Peacock Flats is nearby. Hopefully, the day and time you hike you will be able to see the peacocks, but it is almost a given that you will be able to hear them:)

Ka' ena Point is another all-time favorite! There is much to observe and do in this unmotorized vehicle area. The shore line is very interesting and chances are high that you will see a monk seal sunbathing and chilling in the sun. You will probably see lots of different types of crabs and sea cucumbers along the shore line. You can hike and mountain bike and certain times of the year you can observe the famous bird, The Albatross. There are two kinds of albatross in Hawaii: the ka`upu, or blackfooted albatross (rare) and the moli, or Laysan albatross (endangered). These amazing birds can live up to fifty years, and have been recorded to fly as far as 2,000 miles in one day.

SUNSET TRAIL AKA Ehukai Pillbox trail AKA Lilikoi Junction trail is better known as the Sunset Pillbox Hike, because it has some beautiful views of Ehukai Beach (better known as Banzai Pipeline) and the North Shore coastline. Located behind the Sunset Elementary School, this hike will take you about 30 minutes to climb up to the top. The distance to reach the top of the ridge is short but can be a little strenuous and challenging to get up to. A MUST SEE! You find directions on the Internet :)

WAIMEA BAY AND VALLEY TRAIL My most favorite Beach because I love the sandy beaches and shore line the best. There are lots of different choices on where to spread your beach towel or blanket or chair. Many times I stay down towards The Rock for live entertainment:) Waimea Valley has a trail and a farmers market and beautiful and stunning peacocks. The old historic Sts. Peter & Paul Mission is up on the hill.
