Neighbourhoods

Narberth is a small town with lots of interesting shops to browse: great for foodies and for finding gifts. The museum is excellent and has a bookshop and café. There is also a pleasant non- muddy walk that starts from the car park.

Lunch and a walk

If you want a not too demanding stroll and a nice lunch
Stunning location- dine while you watch the sun set over the sea, or eat lunch in the garden looking down at the beach below. The hotel has the only place to park so we come here although the food has been variable in quality

Little haven is quite a drive away but it is a very pretty beach and this pub has good pub food overlooking the beach (not checked for 2021)

The route to Newport through the Gwaun Valley and over the hills provides spectacular views of the coast. Newport is a popular village for visitors. The Parrog has a small car park and café and you can walk around the harbour towards Fishguard, with a very easy path for the first half mile. Alternatively you can take the flat path towards the estuary and see a variety of birds, crossing the river and heading for the sandy beach on the other side. I don’t think there is anywhere to lunch at the beach, but plenty of choice in the town itself. If you just want the beach, it is accessible by car but you’ll have to use a map!

If you park at Pwyllgwaelod you will have a choice of walks. You can follow the coastal path around Dinas Head a very satisfying circular walk that isn’t too long, or you can set off anti-clockwise and just walk a mile on the tarmac path to a pretty little beach at Cym-yr-Eglwys and enjoy an ice cream sitting on one of the benches. You can get lunch (not checked for 2021) at the pub in Pwyllgwaelod, which has a garden overlooking the beach

Porthgain is a tiny village with a picturesque harbour on the coastal path. There are good places to eat and lovely walks. If you do your research you can time your visit to catch the coast bus west to Abereiddy, then walk back a couple of miles along the coastal path to Porthgain, past the spectacular blue waters of the Abereiddy quarry, and lunch at the Shed or the Sloop Inn, and maybe buy some fresh crab for supper

Rosebush used to be a resort in Victorian times when the railway reached here. There is a nice old Welsh pub run by the community that does pub food, and a farm selling wonderful cheeses. You can walking through the old quarry to find what we call the Skimming pool: lots of flat stones to test your skills. Or if you are feeling energetic you can park in a layby on the main road and walk up to the highest point in the Preselis.

The reservoir re-opened in 2021 with a new café and lots of new activities such as cycling and water sports. You pay for car parking but there are several walks around the lake and a children’s playground for free. https://llys-y-fran.co.uk/llys-y-fran-reservoir/
