Rio's Botanic Garden is certainly a must ! This beautiful peaceful garden, in the middle of the city's hustle and bustle, is a UNESCO biosphere reserve with a wide variety of exotic plants from all over the world — over 8,000 species, among imperial palm trees, pau-brasil (redwood trees), orchids (more than 500 kinds), bromeliads, water lilies, etc. — as well as monkeys, toucans and hundreds of other birds. A pleasant outdoor cafe overlooks the gardens.

Our tip : the best time (at least for us) to go up the Sugar Loaf, mainly in hot days, is around 4:30-5:00 PM : the heat is more clement, you'll still have daylight while going up, and you can then watch the sun setting over the bay and the mountains - it's magic and sumptuous ! (And it's safe, you won't be alone since many people prefer going up at that time of the day.)

Certainly the most stunning view of Rio !
Our tip : the best time (at least for us) to go up the Sugar Loaf, mainly in hot days, is around 4:30-5:00 PM : the heat is more clement, you'll still have daylight while going up, and you can then watch the sun setting over the bay and the mountains - it's magic and sumptuous ! (And it's safe, you won't be alone since many people prefer going up at that time of the day.)
Here you can do everything, from hiking & wildlife-watching to para gliding & hang-gliding (“Asa Delta”)... The Park offers some great walks with many waterfalls, creeks, caves and picnic areas. It also has around 200 km of trails with different degrees of difficulty to the different public (from children and elderly to experienced hikers) some of which with stunning views.

Here you can do everything, from hiking & wildlife-watching to para gliding & hang-gliding (“Asa Delta”)... The Park offers some great walks with many waterfalls, creeks, caves and picnic areas. It also has around 200 km of trails with different degrees of difficulty to the different public (from children and elderly to experienced hikers) some of which with stunning views.

Rio has a cycle lane that runs along the entire coast and ranges from Leblon to the Port area downtown, newly renovated. Biking is therefore a good way to discover the city!
Do you like sports? You will find throughout the beaches plenty of gym equipments and sports activities such as football, volley ball, foot-volley, beach tennis, stand-up paddle, wind surf, kite-surf, etc.
