Nimes has the best preserved Roman Colosseum outside Rome. I love how it just appears as you're walking and its still very much a part of life today - used for concerts and the odd bullfight.

Laroque is a very picturesque place to stop for lunch. After a 45 minute drive through the Herault valley, choose one of the restaurants perched right on the river.
