Great for essentials. Cheap gas is across the street at Pilot truck stop. These and Starbucks are all located at the South Weed exit off the 5 fwy.

Anywhere up on the mountain will be enjoyable, including Bunny Flat hiking trail. Just follow the other cars up the mountain. Free parking and free hiking trails.

Have not been inside but visited the fish hatchery. The museum has hosted photography of Mt. Shasta, taken by local artists. Check their website for hours of operation. It is on the way to Lake Siskiyou, off the 5 fwy at the Mt. Shasta Lake exit.

If you are used to the city life, please have low expectations regarding food and entertainment in Siskiyou County. Check out Casa Ramos and Phuket Thai Cafe at the south end of town; Burger Express and Dos Geckos in downtown area, near Ace Hardware.
