Arts & Culture

After you have seen the major sites, add this little gem to your list. This house is one of the four historic house museums which make up the Milan Historic House Museums Network. All except Casa Museo Boschi Di Stephano have admission charges but you can buy a combined visit card at the other three which will save you at least €12. The museum is situated on a lively street with many wonderful stores, especially the Alessi store. There are paintings artists like Botticelli, Mantegna and Bellini, plus sculpture, furniture, glassware and ceramics. The layout is quite cramped but you can get close to the masterpieces, and the lighting is good. You can see everything in about 90 minutes.

This is probably the most important Opera Theatre of the world. It´s beautiful and the inside is still very nice, although the building is old. Check the Opera season in Milan so you get to enjoy the whole beauty of this place.

There has been a governmental building at this site, just Southeast of the Duomo, for many centuries. It gradually transformed into a fort and later evolved into a palace. It became a center of power around 1546, when the Governor of the region, Ferrante Gonzaga, set up residence here. Over the next five centuries, fires, war and remodeling projects transformed the building. Now it hosts amazing exhibits of artists from all over the world

The Basilica of Santa Maria della Passione was founded at the end of the 15th century. It is the second largest church in Milan after the Duomo. The church is filled with beautiful art. However it is not in the center of town and it is a bit difficult to find it

There’s a place in Milan where vintage lovers can find their heaven. Its name is East Market and it takes place two Sundays a month in Lambrate, the eastern area of the city. East Market has chosen an old abandoned factory dating back to the World War II, in the heart of the Design District of Lambrate, (in Via Ventura 14) as location. From a few years, this area has been animated by designers and creatives, especially during Milan Design week, when Via Ventura itself becomes a laboratory of ideas, including installations, performances and events. Among art galleries, designer’s loft and artist’s studios, East Market fits perfectly. But this is not the classic Italian sunday vintage market.

A perfect example of a Gothic cathedral. The vaulted ceilings and elaborate stained glass windows are very impressive. On a sunny day, the rays of light create a very dramatic effect. This basilica is simply magnificent! The way it opens up when you first arrive at the square is stunning and breath taking. I would recommend that you purchase tickets online from the official website to avoid standing in the queue

You can not believe the art work and architecture of this building until you go inside. It is beautiful and well worth a visit. The flooring is also to be admired. The shops window displays are probably one of the attractions as well. In the center you will find the heel spin for good luck. Take three turns with your heel in the ground for a year of good luck.

Can you find a strange animal in a bas-relief up in one of the arches facing Via dei Mercanti? Search for it! Someone says it's the proof of the celtic origin of Milano. It looks like a board sitting on its hind legs. Piazza Mercanti is a picturesque square just a stone's thrown away from the Duomo. During the Middle Ages, this was the commercial and governmental center of Milan. Piazza Mercanti, Milan, Italy Piazza Mercanti it was a city hall and a prison. It is not as hectic anymore. Its square does seem to throw you back to the Middle Ages.

Best Japanese in Milano - but careful, after trying it you won't be able to go to many other sushi places in town. The place is tiny, no reservations, there's always a queue and service is so-so but it's still so much worth it! Prices are low considering the quality and freshness of ingredients and the mastery that Shiro puts in the preparation.
