Parks & Nature

You can walk there by the canal path. Really pretty especially on a sunny day. Walk from my place to mile end tube station or get the eastbound district line (2 stops) to mile end station. You can then take the canal path going north and walk to victoria park. Or you can keep on the canal path for as long as you want and walk to angel, Kings cross, camden town and more.

Very pretty and you can walk across to Buckingham Palace. It's possible to find a quiet spot even on a busy day.

Lovely park...I usually get off at St. James station and walk across St. James park, take in the B'ham palace and enter green park. Chill there on a sunny day and walk towards Green park station, turn right and go to Fortnum & Mason for a wicked sundae!

Sightseeing

Anyone visiting London will want to go and see the crown jewels, the Tower Bridge and walk by the Thames. From my place, get the westbound district line ...2 stops to tower hill or walk there which takes roughly 25 mins. Cross the bridge and explore the bars at shad Thames or walk down the river towards SouthBank. On the way you can explore Borough Market, Southwark cathedral, Shakespeare's Globe and even get the Thames Clippers river boat to London Eye. Oh, you can also go to the Shard and check out the stunning views.

Well, it's a must see. Get the westbound district line from mine and get off at St.James for a lovely walk across the park and on to the Mall for a great path to the palace. If you can do during a weekday then crowds will be less.

Food Scene

Lots of restauraunts and bars throughout the week, but go on a sunday for the best experience. Start from my place and walk to Columbia Flower Market on a sunday morning (be prepared for crowds) and then stroll to Brick Lane and get a salt beef bagel at London's oldest bagel shop. You can walk down Brick lane and then head towards Spitalfields Market perhaps for a drink or food. If you are still out in the evening, walk to the Heron Tower opp Liverpool Street station and go up to Sushi Samba...my favourite place for a drink! The views are simply stunning especially at night.

I am Indian and a good cook...if I can't cook for my friends, this is where I take them for a fantastic and value for money meal!

Great kebabs and asian food...hmmm, but try not to wear your favourite clothes as the grill smoke doesn't seem to get out of them!

Drinks & Nightlife

This is my preferred place to go out for the night...drink, eat and club...lots of options. Best bit is it's only one stop away on the Northbound Overground from Whitechapel and if you are out late it costs no more than a tenner to get a taxi back home.

The views are stunning, especially if it's clear and you can get a sunset. 360 degree views...and very relaxing. Best to book a table in advance (try 3 weeks in advance) around sunset time for best views and avoid having to queue.

Arts & Culture

It's free and the best of the permament exhibits are organised well so you can see them even in limited time. But go during a weekday and grab a seat to contemplate on Canaletto, Constable, van Gogh and more. Check out their website...sometimes they do live music on Friday evenings in a room with music inspired by the artwork.

It's a pretty church at Trafalgar Square and I try my best to go to the free afternoon concerts. Check their website for concert info. Evening ones are usually at a fee.

Absolutely stunning inside and out. My fave way of seeing it is to walk there (about 35 mins from my place). I think they now charge about 15 pounds to go inside. If you have never seen it, then I think it's worth paying. If you have already seen it and loved it, I would recommend going on a sunday afternoon with a picnic lunch to enjoy in the churchyard. They ring the bells on a sunday and it's pretty amazing to sit in the yard listening.

Getting Around

Best way to get around London is by Tube...Whitechapel station is literally around the corner and you can get the District line going directly to most of the sighseeing stops - Embankment, westminster, St. James park, Sloane Square, South Kensington etc. The Hammersmith & City line will take you to Kings Cross, Baker Street and Paddington. The Overground to Canada Water or you can change at Shadwell for Canary Wharf. Also, there is a Bus 25 which goes direct to Oxford Circus. The transport links are simply the best from my home.
