It never ceases to amaze me how many different facets there are to this place. I go every single day, sometimes twice a day - the skies are huge and change dramatically as you look from the cliffs out over the Kattegat. You see the weather sweep in, the wind on your face. You even get hills, a rarity in flat Denmark, and the sand cliffs are continuously eroded, especially in the autumn and winter. The beaches at the base of Heather hill are superb, and have grown enormously this past winter due to stormy seas biting into the cliffs. Swimming is safe, but just ask a Dane about conditions, they'll happily inform you - no lifeguard on duty.

A very pretty village close to Hundsted. Lots of pretty cottages with hollyhocks and thatched roofs.

The most gorgeous historical city that you're ever likely to find in Denmark. Site of the mighty Kronborg fortress, the busiest sea crossing in the world, great walks around the beautiful old half-timbered city and photo opportunities at every turn.

The most gorgeous historical city that you're ever likely to find in Denmark. Site of the mighty Kronborg fortress, the busiest sea crossing in the world, great walks around the beautiful old half-timbered city and photo opportunities at every turn.
Our nearest beach - sandy and not too crowded. It takes approximately 20 minutes pleasant walking. The swimming is safe and good, just don't go in rough conditions or when there's a wind blowing from the land. From here you can walk east towards Heather hill, then back to Casa Knudsen through the summerhouse area on the same side as the kiosk. Or else go west and walk approximately 7 km up the beach to Tisvildeleje. This takes three or so hours (with swims and breaks). You can then take a bus from the train station back towards Vejby and hop off at "Camping Pladsen." Otherwise, take the train to Vejby and walk home, or take a bus.

Food Scene
It's one of Denmarks busiest fishing ports. Check out the fresh and smoked fish and lovely fishcakes (frikadellar) at the harbour fish shops. You can also order fish and chips, big open sandwiches, fresh prawns and sushi at open air restaurants here. There's lively cafes in town and the chance to hear live music on warm summer nights. A super place for all the family!

A royal palace with wonderful gardens down to Esrum lake. It's possible to visit inside the palace in late June and July, also the private royal gardens. The rest of the year the Queen is often in residence. The local town is also sweet.
