Best local coffee spot. But be warned that they do not have wifi because that is not their thing. Great coffee is. I recommend their espresso.

Over in the Drake Neighborhood. This is one of my coffee house offices. Free wifi. Great art shows. Food is decent too.

This place gets busy fast and any seat with a wall outlet is hot real estate. I love their food. I usually get a cheeseburger and a coffee, which sounds weird until you try it.

My favorite bar. No TVs and a mid-century modern atmosphere. It is inside of what used to be the old Des Moines Register building. If you are a fan of classic cocktails and the TV show MAD MEN then you need to check it out.

A Des Moines treasure and its free! The Des Moines Art Center offers monthly modern art exhibition, film screenings, and an impressive permanent collection. It is also within walking distance from the house. Just step outside and look to your left.

Best local market in town. Its a halfway point between Trader Joes and Wholefoods. It is a little more expensive than your average grocery store, but it has a cafe inside that is outstanding.
