Arts & Culture

Images Cinema is one of my favorite things about Williamstown: a non-profit, art house single-screen movie theater, more than 100 years old. Great popcorn, wine, beer and cider.

Sightseeing

in south williamstown (~10 min drive) for milk, cheese and meat. Their cheese and raw milk is very very good. They have a self-service farm store and you can walk around and say hi to the cows while they’re being milked, or the pigs while they’re being pigs. Kid friendly. Sometimes there's a lot of mud!

Swimming

A short walk down the trail through the woods and you will find the Hoosic River, which flows behind the house on its way up to Vermont and over to the Hudson River. However, the water quality is not actively checked, so swimming (and eating fish caught in the river) is not recommended. Boating / kayaking and wading in the river is perfect though - just be careful of the sometimes swift / dangerous current after heavy rains ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

(~5min drive or ~20min bike ride) is a wonderful, very accessible, city-maintained and quality-checked swimming hole - a seasonally diverted mountain creek (Hemlock Brook) forms a shallow pond with sandy beaches on both sides, with a picnic area under giant conifers.

a great swimming pond, clear waters and friendly vibes. there's grills, picnic tables, and camping spots as well if you'd like to camp out there or make a full day of it! One note is that there's not much shade on the beach part, so many people bring tents or umbrellas. A popular place to canoe, paddle board, or kayak around the quiet waters if you have one to bring.

Skiing

Seasonal. Cross Country ski heaven! This may be my favorite place on the list. The trails are lovely, well maintained, and take you into pristine forest. Winter wonderland. There is also a ski chalet with coffee, tea, lunch, good snacks to refuel. The staff are super helpful even if you've never skied before-- they may chuckle (they cracked up at my first ski attempt) but they're very supportive and cross country skiing is relatively easy to learn. There are also some former olympians who circle the trails!
