About 9 miles away, this National Trust property and gardens is one of our absolute favourites. There is often a trail on for children but if not the play park is usually open as is the water pump feature which kids love. The cafe sells lovely cakes and the ice-creams are a must!

Moors Valley has a great play trail and park which are free and there are plenty of places for a picnic. There is also Go Ape, Segways to hire and a train which vary in price.

Opposite to Hengistbury Head this popular sandy beach is worth a visit. Crabbing options, few good restaurant options including the Noisy Lobster. Nice walk from here down to Mudeford Quay.

A few miles away this is worth a visit, children love running down the banks of the 12th century castle, explore further and you come to a large lake with amphitheatre. 8 acres of garden follow the river. Great local place for a picnic and an explore!

A real favourite with locals and recently refurbished. The inside is tiny but there is a large beer garden and a marquee at the back. Lovely walk/ cycle from our house into the woods onto the tracks that lead to Hamptworth.
