Union Square is a central spot in the city. On the weekends it hosts the cities largest farmers market and there are always art vendors showcasing their work as well!

If you want to see the Brooklyn Bridge take the A or C to High Street and walk through Brooklyn Bridge park before the walk over the bridge. It hosts amazing views of lower Manhattan.

I'd highly recommend scheduling tickets to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island if you are visiting the city. The boat ride there also gives you a fantastic view of the city.
