Parks & Nature

Stunning reserve with dunes and large pool and Sker beach about 1 mile away by foot. The reserve is home to the rare Fen Orchid as well as many visiting rare birds. There was once a medieval town here but it became buried by the sand. The castle can still be seen and the nearby Prince of Wales pub is one of the oldest around.

Essentials

Small convenience store with everything you need. In Porthcawl there's a Co-Op or a large ASDA in Pyle for a larger food shop.

Sightseeing

The iconic harbour is well worth a look. Porthcawl was once the largest exporter of coal in the world with a huge harbour. It's only about a third as big now but has two lighthouses. Huge waves crash over it in winter and it's regularly featured on weather reports whenever big storms lash the UK coast. During the summer months there's a weekly free fireworks display put on by the Hi-Tide every Tuesday night.
