If you're visiting Asheville, you need to sample some BBQ. 12 Bones is the most famous but they are always crowded and have limited hours. Try Bonfire instead. The food is great - don't be put off that it is located in a strip mall. You won't be disappointed.

This is the tasting room for Wicked Weed. A little off the beaten path on the South Slope. If you like sour beers, this place is heaven.

This is one of the two "BIG" breweries in town. Nice porch with great views of the French Broad. The brewery prides itself on paying a living wage and you are encouraged NOT to tip (of course I do anyway).

No trip to Asheville is complete without a trip to The Biltmore. I like to take a book on rainy afternoons, sit on the porch and pretend I'm a guest. Be sure to add the basement and/or rooftop tours. Definitely worth the extra time.

One of the great joys of living in the south is a lazy float down a river. Zen Tubing will drop you off and you float back down to their location for the take out. Be sure to rent a cooler and bring some beers and sodas.

Great place for white water rafting. While it isn't the best white water in the area (Check out the Green River for that), it is a great ride. Plan to spend some time in Bryson city afterwards. Check out Nantahala Brewing.

Great hiking, GREAT mountain biking, even some history with a CCC camp from the 30's.
Beautiful place to get away from it all. Land used to be owned by George Vanderbilt (Biltmore House).

Super close to Asheville. Good hiking and mountain biking. Beautiful mountain lake with swimming. Definitely worth checking out.
