Small village with 5 grocery stores and a few shops. The shopping mall is called Parken. The trains run to Oslo every hour and takes 1 hour. Eating out: For lunch, we recommend the newly opened Perrongen café and bar. Americana restaurant has excellent bbq food, burgers and pizza. Mona Lisa restaurant has a wide variety of food (Turkish, sushi, pizza, burgers).

Hiking area

The island Øyen has several nice hiking trails, for example up to the view point on Brattberget (Google «hiking area») Burial mounds from the Bronze Age (1500-500 BC) have been found on the island, and Nedre Øyen farm is the oldest known settlement in the area.

This is one of our favourite forest walks and takes only about 30 minutes each way. The path starts right behind the guest house, takes you over a wood lot (follow the pink ribbons), and into a forest path. Keep right at three intersections and walk past the phone tower. The view point is located next to a Bronze Age burial mound (pile of rocks), and is fitted with a fire pit and a log book.

Activities

The lake near our property is nice for swimming and canoeing. It’s connected to a river that takes you out to Storsjøen lake or down to Skarnes. In the winter, the lake is great for ice fishing, ice skating and skiing. We have canoe and kayak rentals, as well as fishing equipment rentals.

In the winter, Trondsbumarka offers great cross-country skiing tracks. It’s a 25 minute drive away from the Guesthouse. You can check when the tracks were prepared on “skisporet dot no”
