Western Union sending and receiving point (Western union branch number 16430). The bank opens 8:30 AM and closes 3PM from Sunday to Thursday. I highly recommend going to the bank at 8AM and be the first one there, as it gets very busy during the day.

They will be on the 3rd floor. It’s best to call them beforehand to book an appointment. The staff there speak English, so you shouldn’t face any language issues.

Pictures aren’t permitted in Military and Police zones.
Be careful when taking pictures around certain zones. If you see heavy Military or Police presence around a building, it will probably be a government or military owned building so no photos inside or outside the building. You will be approached if they see you taking pictures.

As a traveller you will get approached by sellers if you go to touristy places. The best phrase to learn is “No, thank you!” when approached by these sellers. In Arabic, you say, “La, sh-uk-ran!” Or you could just ignore them and imagine they are not there, and they will stop talking to you.

Eating Egyptian cuisine - very well priced and easy to find
I would definitely recommend not eating big fast food names (McDonald’s, Burger King etc) on a daily basis as it can add up with cost, and it’s not the best thing to eat daily. Instead i recommend eating Egyptian/Arabic food as its very well priced, and the quality will be much better as it’s fresh food. Arabiata is a Egyptian food chain restaurant - the food is amazing and very good quality.

Sometimes when taking a taxi, the taxi driver will ask you for directions despite having the navigation on. So the best thing to do is to use your own navigation and direct him. Here are some phrases you’ll need to know in order to direct him where to go. Al-a-toool = go forward / ya-mean = right / she-mal = left / hen-a = stop here

The metro is very convenient and fast!
I would recommend taking the metro to downtown as you skip lots of traffic. Then taking an Uber/Careem to the final destination once you get off the metro. The metro is like 5-7 EGP and it goes to most places in Cairo.

Tourists stick out like sore thumbs so hustlers are able to pick you out from the crowd. So whenever you are paying someone, NEVER show how much money you have. Turn your back to them and take your money out if you have too.

You’ll have to carry your passport around so its best to bring a little pouch/bum bag to keep your passport, phone, wallet etc secure whilst walking around.
