Less than an hour outside the city, this national park offers abundant wildlife viewing opportunities. It is also a dark sky preserve so great spot for stargazing.

Just northwest of Edmonton, this city has a lot of history (relatively speaking, for Alberta). And it has a pleasant downtown with shops and restaurants, and lots of green space. Also during the summer it has the largest outdoor farmers market in western Canada.
