District Six was once a vibrant, mixed community which was forever altered by the apartheid regime. The museum has a lot of photos which tell the story of the community. Get a ticket that includes a guided tour by a community member.

This cute shopping center offers banks and currency exchange counters, grocery shopping, with a Pick & Pay and Woolworths Foods, and arguably one of Cape Town's best butcher shop (Hartlief) and pastry shop/cafe (Cassis). There is outdoor sports and clothing shop, a great wine store and much much more. Most of all it's boutique, easy to navigate and literally a stone's throw from the apartment.

This is a beautiful park and community farm. Whether you just wish to enjoy the outdoors or find the freshest organic veggies, the farm is literally 15min walk from our apartment. It's open Mondays-Fridays from 7 am to 4 pm and from 10 am to 1 pm on Saturdays. The farm is closed on Sundays but the adjacent Heritage Park is open.

The next day, it might be shrouded in clouds or the wind will howl and the cable car will be closed. If you're hiking fit, walk up Platteklip Gorge or Skeleton Gorge (Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens) and take the cable car down.

Visit the place where the great minds of the ANC were imprisoned and hear live testimony from former political inmates who guide the tours of the prison. The crossing is by speed boat and the views from the island are beautiful.

MyCiti is Cape Town's new bus system, its network is growing. You need to buy a fare card at the station which is in front of the apartment building. The buses run on time, are safe, and clean. If you prefer more flexible transportation, make use of Uber which is as good as anywhere in the world.
