Perfect for a sundowner, The Mussel Shoal has the best view in the village, sitting right on the waterfront. As you would expect, they sell mussels but also always have veggie & vegan options too. Self described as fun, not fine dining, opening days & hours are weather dependant.

Full of character inside & spectacular views outside, this has got to be Britain's best pub. Plus they have a great selection of ales and good pub grub with added local "atmosphere" (rowdy drunk locals in the best sort of way) - this is a must visit.

Great sandwiches in the day & lovely pizza in the evening - book your pizza slot though! Also they have a nice selection of local gins :-)

Walks / Beaches
The walk along the cliff path from Porthleven makes for a lovely day out. Take a picnic and your swimming stuff - Rinsey is beautiful and unspoilt so you will not find any cafes or toilets! If you are too tired for the full walk back you can walk along the coast road for an easier trip home and it conveniently goes past The Ship Inn for a pint to reward your efforts!

If you are too tired for the full walk back you can walk along the coast road for an easier trip home and it conveniently goes past The Ship Inn for a pint to reward your efforts!

Praa Sands is a mile long stunning beach which is totally unspoilt at one end (Hendra - with only roadside parking) or more developed at the other (Praa Sands - with car parks, pub, cafe etc).

If you are feeling energetic the walk along the cliff path from Porthleven to Praa Sands is a good work out. There are buses too, or it is about a 15 minute drive. Praa Sands is a mile long stunning beach which is totally unspoilt at one end (Hendra - with only roadside parking) or more developed at the other (Praa Sands - with car parks, pub, cafe etc).
The walk out past Loe Bar, along the cliff path to The Halzephron Inn is the perfect length to earn a few pints without being totally exhausting. Unfortunately there is no public transport so don't forget to stay sober enough for the walk back!

Loe Bar is a beautiful beach and pool but do not swim here, however tempting it looks and however calm. It is never lifeguarded and it is not safe - even in good weather the currents are treacherous. In bad weather it is truly lethal. It is not even safe for dogs to swim here at any time. Enjoy the view, then go inland and walk around the lake!

City/town information
Falmouth is well worth a visit. About 30 minutes' drive away it is a busy student town with lovely shops, a great Art Gallery and the excellent Maritime Museum.

If you would like to go kayaking or stand up paddle boarding, you can hire or go on guided trips with Vertical Blue. Run by a lovely local family they will be super helpful and have all the equipment you will need.

Beaches & Swimming
The beach at Porthleven is beautiful, but take to only swim when it is lifeguarded. The conditions can change quickly and it can become very dangerous. If no-one else is in the water, you shouldn't be either!
Likewise the pier is a lovely place to walk and enjoy the view, or eat your chips with a sundowner, but if there is a storm stay well clear. It is lethal in strong winds and when the waves are breaking.
