Great places to eat around town, for all tastes and budgets. I have personally tried all of these places.

My favorite restaurant in the city. Creative, contemporary takes on southern cuisine, served in a friendly and unpretentious setting. I highly recommend the blind tasting menu. Quintessential New Orleans dining experience and an institution in the city's restaurant scene for many many years. While their dinner menu is definitely pricey, head there for brunch or lunch to get a real taste of refined creole cooking at a good price. During weekday lunch they serve 25 cent martinis too! If you're downtown and need a pick me up, this is a great spot to grab a cup of coffee! They have a simple, focused menu and are expert in preparing all their drinks. One of the best pour-overs in the city too! Be warned that they have recently raised their prices to what I would consider a bit unreasonable, but if you don't mind paying for a quality cup of coffee you're in good hands.

Part convenience store part restaurant, Cleo's is one of your best bets for late night eats after a night of fun in the French Quarter/downtown. In a city spoiled for choice when it comes to delicious Vietnamese food, I find myself constantly back at Lilly's to get my fix. New Orleans' BBQ scene has really come into its own in recent years, and there may be no better example of this thank Blue Oak. This place is the real deal (brisket lean or fatty, sliced or chopped), and beyond the expected fare you will sometimes find some creative offerings on the menu. The Blind Pelican is pretty standard bar/restaurant fare, the REAL reason to go there is for the daily oyster special from 4-8pm. $3 for a dozen raw oysters -- and that is not a typo. The one "catch" is that you need to order and adult beverage for every dozen oysters to get the deal. But you were going to get a beer anyway, so enjoy! The restaurant is conveniently located right on the St Charles streetcar line, and I recommend getting there early for the oyster special.

This place has recently exploded in popularity, even gaining lots of recognition on the national food scene. But it's not the fine dining restaurant you'd expect based on the accolades. You've heard about Willie Mae's, but if you're looking for a much less touristy experience and equally delicious fried chicken check out Manchu Food Store. I don't recommend many places in the French Quarter because they're either tourist traps or just overpriced, but Dian Xin is a solid bet if you're wandering the Quarter looking for good Chinese food. If you're looking for that "taste of New Orleans" look no further than Gabrielle Restaurant. This institution took a 10 year break after Hurricane Katrina before reopening nearby on Orleans Avenue. While New Orleans has a great selection of quality Middle Eastern eateries, Saba is surely the crown jewel. This upscale, modern Israeli restaurant has a mouthwatering menu of new and familiar favorites and offers tons of small plates so you can try a bit of everything. Drinks & Nightlife

The craft brewing scene has recently exploded into New Orleans. But with all the new breweries in town, I always find myself back at Courtyard. I believe this is technically a "micro-brewery", but they always have a huge selection and variety of consistently delicious brews. It's mostly outdoor seating, so go on a nice night. And it's a surprisingly relaxing spot tucked away in an unlikely location. They have rotating food trucks come through each night. If I had to define how New Orleans "does" craft beer, this would be it.

I cannot recommend this museum enough. Even if you're not a history buff, the National WWII Museum is a truly impressive experience and world-class attraction. The museum is huge and includes a range of different exhibits and activities. You could easily spend 2-3 days exploring everything, so pace yourself accordingly depending on how much time you have and what you want to see. If you're looking to hear some local music Frenchmen Street is a safe bet. There are over a dozen music clubs clustered around the first few blocks of Frenchmen Street (starting from the east side of the French Quarter). While some of the clubs charge a cover, many do not so you can come and go as you please. If you've found Bourbon Street to be a bit too much, you might feel a bit more at ease on Frenchmen Street (though it still gets pretty crazy!).
