Wighton is a quiet village with easy access to the coast, the nearest resort being Wells-next-the Sea, just two miles away, with its bustling Quay, beautiful beach and independent shops and cafes. Wighton has the feel of a proper village in a land of hamlets along secret lanes, and is surrounded by open farmland. Peaceful and pretty, the village is predominantly made up of brick and flint cottages and located midway between Little Walsingham and the popular coastal resort of Wells-next-the-Sea. The village pub, The Carpenters Arms, is a popular destination for both locals and visitors and serves great locally sourced food, some of the best pizzas around, and a selection of real ales ‘on tap'. Wighton church is something of a landmark, sitting on a high rise, and can be seen for miles around. It is also only a short drive inland to the Walsinghams. Little Walsingham, a medieval wonder that is well worth a visit, has a renowned farm shop, pubs, restaurants and cafes. The garden and grounds surrounding Walsingham Abbey are famous for the spectacular ruins of the mediaeval Priory and place of pilgrimage, together with an unrivalled display of massed snowdrops in February. Walsingham has a long history of religious pilgrimage, dating back to the 11th century. Its nearby sister village of Great Walsingham is an ancient and peaceful North Norfolk village, with an award-winning pie maker and cafe, gallery, craft centre and gift shop.
