Not Spanish, as it's just Greek but it's a cool place in the centre of Lavapies and it's great for a quick bite.

Arts & Culture
My favourite museum in the world. The collection is huge but you have to see iconic pieces of El Greco, Goya, Rubens, Velasquez and Jeronimos Bosch. Buy your tickets online so you don't have to wait in the line. Avoid the free entrace in the afternoon, it will take at least an hour to get in and the time left won't be enough to see what's needed.
IMO, it would be best to visit the Prado before Thyssen and finally Reina Sofia as you get a good understanding on how art evolved. Seeing the breakthroughs of Greco and Goya will give you a better feel of Picasso and Dali for example.

Picasso's Guernica resides here together with awesome pieces of 20th century art. There's also a big section of the political situation in Spain (civil war, Franco etc) so you get a better feel of Spain's thesis during the middle of the 20th century.

Beautiful park. Make sure to visit Palacio Crystal which is inside it. It's a small but very magical glassy building, usually it holds an art exhibition inside.
Also, it might be very touristic but you can always rent boats for the main lake, it's a fun ride ;-)

Awesome spot and amazing views. Try to visit right before sunset. Most people go at that time but you get the best light for pictures and you get to see the famous copy of an Egyptian temple lighted :)

Nothing too great but you get to see some nice sculptures that tell the history of Spain more or less.

If you have half a day please try to visit Toledo. You can take the train from Atocha Station which is very near the house and you'll be there in half an hour. You get a good feeling about Spain's past and you get to see one of El Greco's most famous paintings (The burial of Count Orgaz )

Another great spot an hour tops from Madrid is Segovia. Cool castle that inspired Walt Disney as well as an amazing Cathedral can be found there together with the famous Cocinillo (20days old pigs). I didn't want to taste it at first as I felt really bad about the poor pigs but I tried and it's indeed very good. Up to you if you want ;)

Shopping
In general, El Corte Ingles are huge malls in Spain where you can find almost anything. I try to avoid them as they become very crowded but this particular Corte Ingles at Callao has a terraza with small tapas and amazing view.

I hate going to Gran Via as it can become very very crowded but I must admit that it's worth walking around and check out the architecture and there are a lot of shops.
