The White Cliffs of Dover, part of the North Downs formation, is the region of English coastline facing the Strait of Dover and France. The cliff face, which reaches a height of 350 feet, owes its striking appearance to its composition of chalk accented by streaks of black flint.

The claustrophobic chalky passageways were excavated during the Napoleonic Wars and then expanded to house a command post and hospital in WWII. The highly enjoyable 50-minute guided tour (every 20 minutes, included in the ticket price) tells the story of one of Britain’s most famous wartime operations, code-named Dynamo, which was directed from here in 1940 and saw hundreds of thousands of men evacuated from the beaches at Dunkirk.

You will see our main bar area walls adorned in signatures of those who have successfully swum the channel. We are essentially a Pub and therefore serve excellent cask ales for which we have been awarded The Cask Marque accreditation for the quality of our ales. We have a great range of draught lager, Guinness and Cider, a splendid selection of fine wines and we stock in excess of 40 gins with always the perfect serve. Home cooked food is served daily between 12pm and 2pm for lunch and 6pm to 8pm for dinner with the exception of Wednesdays when the kitchen is closed.

I have eaten here on a couple of occasions.
The staff are polite and friendly, and happy to help in any way they can. It is always busy due to its popularity and this is well deserve.
